Cops hit the Easter roads with #HeadsUp

Bunbury Police don't have a specific message for the South West this Easter - but officers will target road users "simply doing the wrong thing".

WA's holiday period double demerit penalties began last night and will run until Monday.

WA Police this week launched the #HEADSUP campaign to encourage youth to warn their parents to not use mobile phones while driving.

South West officer-in-charge of traffic, Sgt Craig Clarke, said the social media-driven campaign was a good idea - but Bunbury officers aimed to show a strong presence on the roads.

"We want to have a high visibility over the Easter break because if we're as visible as possible, it will create reassurance for the public," he said.

Sgt Clarke said people should make use of temporary texting bays, heed warning signs and immediately report issues to police.
