Basil Zempilas has long been one of the mainstays of Telethon, having been involved with the Perth charity event for 21 years.

And the Seven Perth sports presenter is now keen for his young daughters Ava, 3, and Chloe, 1, to carry on the family tradition and support the cause this year.

"What's really exciting about Telethon is seeing the generations come through, and now that I'm a dad myself, knowing that Ava and Chloe are going to experience the sorts of things I did as a kid," Zempilas said.

Zempilas, his wife Amy and their daughters will be attending the Coles Kids Carnival in support of Telethon at the weekend, when the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre will be transformed into a fun fair with face painting, live shows and rides. Tickets are just $5 and are available from Coles stores.

Zempilas said the carnival held a lot of excitement for his girls.

"We went to the Coles Kids Carnival last year, and Ava had a ball," he said. "I'll be encouraging Ava and Chloe to donate their pocket money like my parents encouraged me."

Zempilas said Ava had already developed a friendship with Little Telethon Star Emily Prior, who has cerebral palsy.

"Kids see past any form of disability or handicap and I think that's something we can learn from them," he said. "Kids don't see issues. Kids just see kids."
