It was a family affair for Jessica Gomes last night, with her siblings flying from Perth to Sydney to cheer her on as she headlined the David Jones spring/summer 2014 launch.

"They are all here from Perth and they are very excited," Gomes told Access All Areas backstage.

"I am happy to be spending some time with (sisters) Giselle and Bianca, and (brother) Nathan."

The whirlwind family reunion is even more meaningful as Gomes said she wouldn't be able to squeeze in a visit to Perth until the Christmas holidays.

Last night's star-studded event marked the first anniversary for the WA-raised bombshell as the face of the department store, replacing Miranda Kerr last year.

To get her body ready for the show, which featured a number of swimsuit changes, Gomes said she had been using the paleo diet, which advocates eating plant and protein-based foods with no refined wheat or sugar.

"I am really into it. I think it works. It is basically no sugar and lots of protein and vegies," the 28-year-old said. "I have been doing it for quite a while but before any show or shoot I stick to that. I really enjoy it and I work really hard with my body."

Gomes is not just Australia's top swimsuit model, as was obvious on the catwalk last night. She has just shot Sports Illustrated's famed swimsuit edition for the record eighth time.

"They are such an amazing iconic magazine and I have always dreamt of doing it," she said.

"Elle Macpherson did it and I always looked up to her. So I just feel really grateful and blessed to be part of such a great magazine for eight years."

Despite increasing demand for her as a model, Gomes said she had her heart set on making the transition to acting, which she has already started after landing a small role in the latest Transformers blockbuster.

"I am such a fan of Transformers and of (director) Michael Bay. When he called me to do the role it was such an incredible feeling and it was really cool to see myself on the big screen," she said.

"I have such a passion for film and storytelling and I really enjoy that side of film."
