They were poked and prodded, kissed and touched.
And while they may not have been the real thing, that didn't stop hordes of One Directioners queuing up to get close to their idols - even if they were in wax form.
After travelling to London and New York, the wax figures of the five boys - Zayn, Liam, Louis, Niall and Harry - were unveiled at Sydney's Madame Tussauds on Thursday.
There were plenty of screams and giggles from adoring fans who got more than up, close and personal with their favourite boy band members - kissing Harry, hugging Niall, ruffling Louis' hair, gazing adoringly at Zayn, and locking arms with Liam.
For fans like 14-year-old Elizabeth Kovacs, it was almost as good as the real thing.
"I can't even talk right now. I can't feel anything at the moment," she said.
"Every time I see their faces, it just gets to me. It just makes me so happy."
One fan had queued up for hours to see the mannequins with only four hours sleep, after attending the British boy band's concert in Sydney the night before.
Elizabeth and her friend Tanah were both allowed a day off school to be the first to see the wax figures.
"I told my mum that I had to go to the concert tonight and I would be really tired. She knows I love One Direction," Elizabeth said.
With fans like these, to say the band's brand is a cash cow would be an understatement. For Madame Tussauds, that's more than good news.
"We've already got loads of people who've booked VIP tickets," Madame Tussauds Sydney studio manager Zoe Walton said.
"The feedback has been massive and we know they're going to do really, really well."
The boys themselves were involved in creating their mannequin versions - even donating their own clothing.
But for any frisky girls - like the one who stole Liam's underwear from his Sydney hotel this month - that may just mean extra security.
"We're ready - we've got barriers ready for the girls and just to keep them all in check, but they can get up close and personal," Ms Walton said.
"The boys are going to get...probably a bit more treatment...fixing the hair and wiping off the lip gloss."We've got a lot of staff on to protect them. They're going to be just fine."
