After 12 years on Australian airwaves, popular Perth radio presenter Lisa Fernandez has called it quits.
The bubbly radio personality, who co-hosts the Lisa, Baz and Paul breakfast show with Basil Zempilas and Paul Hogan, took to Twitter this morning to announce that she will leave her presenting post at 92.9 before revealing the news on-air to listeners at 8am.
In a heart-felt blog post, Fernandez explained that the time had come to wave goodbye to early morning starts, citing that she also wants to focus on being a mum to daughter Isabella, who starts school next year.
“Part of being a breakfast announcer is you’ve got to go to events at night, you’ve got to attend functions, so it’s not just the 4am wake ups, and it’s pretty tough on your body,” she said.
“Belle starts school not next year, the year after and that’s huge. And I just thought to myself I haven’t done the day care drop off with her because I’ve been here, I’ve had so many functions you know, and I’d really like to spend more quality time with her before she does start school.
“So I have made the very tough decision to take some time off from radio. So that’s what I’ll be doing. I’ll be leaving 92.9 as sad as it is.”Fernandez’ shock departure has struck a chord with a number of WA fans and even celebrities including Perth expat Johnny Ruffo, who took to Twitter to voice their sadness about her exit.
