The mother of a Bunbury 14-year-old has warned of the health risks of unsterile amateur tattoos after her daughter's tattoo became infected.
A 20-year-old man who allegedly did the inking was charged on Tuesday with tattooing or branding a child, an offence under the Children and Community Services Act.
Cobi Landry went to police and took her daughter, Gabrielle, for blood tests after the teen told her the tattoo was infected and sore.
"I'm not against tattoos but I was concerned her health had been put at risk," Ms Landry said, claiming the tattooing had not been done in a sterile or clean environment.
She said her daughter had told her the man had just rinsed the needle in hot water between doing tattoos on different people.
Police allege the man had used a kit he bought on the internet.Ms Landry said they were anxiously awaiting blood test results.
