A convicted rapist collapsed when told his victim was HIV-positive and he might have the incurable virus too.
Richard Thomas, 27, is still waiting to hear if he has HIV, The Bolton News website in Britain reports.
Thomas, 27, knew the woman and understood she was ill but was not aware she was HIV-positive.
When told by police he was shocked and asked to be taken to hospital, Liverpool Crown Court was told.
Thomas had consumed alcohol, cocaine and ecstasy when he let himself into the woman's home in Leigh and raped her.
He did not contest the charges and said the woman "would not lie".
The Bolton News reported that Thomas had used cannabis, alcohol, ecstasy and cocaine since childhood.
His lawyer, Virginia Hayton, said he was remorseful about the crime and could not understand why he did it.
Judge Mark Brown jailed him for five years and four months and Thomas was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register.
