Police have released the name of a man whose body was found inside a burning vehicle in Dawesville last week.
Geoffrey Ian Thompson, 33, of Ravenswood was found inside his Holden Colorado dual cab utility by firefighters early on Tuesday morning.
Firefighters found the vehicle engulfed in flames about 12.20am and only realised Mr Thompson was in the vehicle after they had extinguished the blaze.
It is unknown whether the 33-year-old was alive in the vehicle when the fire began.
The case was initially being investigated by the arson squad before being passed to homicide detectives.
It is understood police are still waiting on dental records to formally identify the 33-year-old.
Major crime detectives are trying to piece together the movements of the utility, which had a white fibreglass canopy, in the hours prior to the fire.
In particular detectives are hoping to hear from anyone who saw the car in the Mandurah and Dawesville area between 6pm on Monday night and 12.20am on Tuesday.Anyone with information regarding the car's movements or the blaze is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
