Prime Minister kevin Rudd has made his first visit to Perth for the election campaign after a whistlestop tour to the Northern Territory and Kununurra yesterday.
Mr Rudd briefly toured the Perth Train Station this morning with Alannah MacTiernan, the candidate for the seat of Perth, where he looked at building work and met briefly with a handful of members of the public.
He received a mixed reception, with some shaking his hand warmly and welcoming him, but one passerby hurled abuse, yelling "you're a f... idiot, Tony Abbott is going to get your job, you should retire".
Mr Rudd ignored the heckler.
He has also visited the Australian Resources Research Centre at Technology Park in Kensington with Resources Minister Gary Gray and Industry Minister Kim Carr.
Mr Rudd will also visit the seats of Hasluck and Swan durng his visit.
He will today announce Perth as headquarters for an oil and gas innovation partnership that brings together 35 business and research institutes to drive innovation. The venture will aim to attract $180 billion in investments to Australia.Woodside, Shell and Santos have signed up to the project to create an oil and gas research precinct in Perth.
