Former Channel 7 personality Jeff Newman has been nominated as a finalist in the Life Education Australia annual Gold Harold Awards.

Newman is one of four finalists in the media category, which recognises those in the media who have excelled in their contribution to the healthy development of children.

He is up against TV stars Jamie Durie, Natalie Gruzlewski and Mike Munro.

Newman has been recognised for his involvement in community projects such as Telethon and Variety WA.

He was the Telethon anchor for 37 years - a role that earned him the name Mr Telethon - and is now a trustee of the Channel 7 Telethon Trust.

The Gold Harold Award winners will be announced at a ceremony in Sydney tonight.
