Pink tour off to flying start

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it is pop's working class heroine Pink flying on to the stage at Perth Arena to launch her mammoth nine-week Australian tour.

The 33-year-old's dazzling high-energy new Truth About Love tour, from the seven-time platinum album of the same name, kicked off last night, with the singer lifted high above the Arena floor upside down by three male dancers, all the while belting out pop-rock hit Raise Your Glass.

Throughout the two-hour show, there was pyrotechnics, aerial acrobatics, dancing and at the core a singer who, despite a muddy sound mix, worked the 15,000 sellout crowd into a type of frenzy rarely seen.

Unlike some other pop megastars who hold their biggest hits at ransom, choosing to play select crowd favourites, Pink - real name Alecia Beth Moore - is all about giving her loyal, predominantly female crowds what they want.

The set was packed with hits that have dominated the FM airwaves for the past decade, from the beginning of her career through to her most recent, and seventh, Australian No.1 single Just Give Me A Reason.

Pink's latest trek doesn't break the record she set with the Funhouse tour in 2009 when she performed 58 shows across Australia.

However, her latest tour statistics are nothing to be scoffed at, as she will play 46 arena shows, including four sellout shows in Perth to 60,000 people.
