A West Coast Eagles footballer accused of a serious assault outside a Northbridge nightclub will plead not guilty, a Perth court was told today.
Appearing in the Perth Magistrate's Court, Murray Newman, 19, indicated through his lawyer Terry Dobson that he would fight the grievous bodily harm charge in the District Court.
Mr Newman was allegedly involved in a fight outside The Library nightclub on Lake Street on November 10 last year. It is alleged the 18-year-old victim was left with a broken jaw.
Mr Dobson told the court that further attempts would be made to negotiate with prosecutors for the charge to be downgraded.
Mr Newman's bail was renewed and he will appear next in court in June.Sponsored links
