Labor win Collie-Preston after recount

AAP, The West Australian March 18, 2013, 4:13 pm

Labor can finally celebrate winning the seat of Collie-Preston, after a recount confirmed incumbent MP Mick Murray was the victor by just 56 votes.

The result came after what the West Australian Electoral Commission said was an exhaustive recount today, overseen by dozens of WAEC staff and party scrutineers.

The Liberal Party accepted a WAEC offer of another count when a full preference distribution on Saturday left a winning margin of less than 100 votes.

The seat of Midland - initially declared Labor's by just 23 votes - will go to a re-count from 9am tomorrow.

The 36 Legislative Council members will be announced tomorrow, when the final preference distribution is conducted for the upper house.
