A man has been charged over an incident which left a 20-year-old man critically injured in Karratha earlier this month.
A passing motorist found Benjamin Gabriel unconscious and with serious head and upper body injuries on a car park verge off Warambie Road in Karratha about 7am on Saturday, March 2 – about 20m from where he had left a local nightclub Evolution Lounge Bar, about four hours earlier.
This morning Karratha detectives charged a 20-year-old man, from the Karratha suburb of Pegs Creek, with grievous bodily harm and aggravated robbery.
The man appeared in Karratha Magistrates Court this morning and has been remanded in custody to re-appear on March 26.
Police allege that the man approached Mr Gabriel in a threatening manner near the nightclub between 3am and 3.50am on March 2.Mr Gabriel backed away and eventually ran away from the accused, police allege.
"He fell onto the verge some 60 metres from where he set off and it will be alleged the accused kicked him in the chest and then stomped on his head rendering him unconscious," a police spokesman said.
