Flares spark search off Yallingup

Water police searched through the night after two flares were spotted off the coast of Yallingup.

Two bright orange flares were reported by from a group staying at the Yallingup Beach Holiday at 10.15pm and 10.25pm.

The flares were thought to be about 10 nautical miles offshore.

No radio distress beacon could be detected by satellite.

A fixed-wing search and rescue aircraft and a local marine search and rescue boat combed the area but no trace of a vessel in distress could be found.
