Police are seeking information about an attempted armed robbery at a Nando's store in Belmont.
It is understood that the Belmont Avenue restaurant had been closed to the public since 6.50pm due to a power failure and about 9.55pm five of the employees had left the store to buy food for themselves. When they returned, they found the back door open.
A male employee entered the store and was confronted by a male who branded a knife and threatened to "chop" him while holding the weapon above his head.
After the 34-year-old told his co-workers not to come inside, he backed away and pushed a shopping trolled toward the offender who then fled west along Belmont Avenue. He has been described as a well-built dark skinned male with facial hair, wearing a blue windbreaker and blue pants, aged in his 30s and about 178cm tall.
