Firefighters prepare for storm

A bushfire burning east of Byford could be hampered by strong winds and thunderstorms forecast for tonight and tomorrow.

The Department of Environment and Conservation says a bushfire advice remains in place for people in the western side of the Wungong Reserve in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

The fire is burning in bushland to the east of Old Haul Road, about 6km east of Byford. It has burnt through approximately 6 hectares.

"There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area," DEC said.

"Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date."

Residents are advised to stay alert, monitor surroundings and watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.

No roads are closed and all recreation sites remain open.

Motorists should avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site.
