Upper Swan fire under control

Update, 6pm: A bushfire which threatened lives and homes in Upper Swan has been brought under control by fire crews.

The blaze started between Great Northern Highway and Apple Street at 11.29am and more than 70 firefighters, a helicopter and four helitacs helped fight the blaze.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has downgraded the alert for people in an area bounded by Warbrook Road, Almeria Parade to Millhouse Road, The Promenade, Charlottes Vista to Marella Road to Halden Road in Bullsbrook, Ellenbrook, Upper Swan, Belhus, Aveley and The Vines to an advice warning.

DFES says there is no longer a threat to lives and homes and the fire is under control.

The all clear has been given for people south of The Promenade and Millhouse Road in Ellenbrook, Aveley and Belhus.

The blaze was described as "out of control and unpredictable" earlier today and DFES had warned people it was too unsafe to leave their homes before the fire was brought under control.

A relocation point at Altone Park Recreation Centre has been closed and DFES says people can now return to their homes.

The cause of the fire is unknown and about 140ha has been burnt.

People are being urged to stay vigilant and monitor their surroundings during the advice alert.

The intersection of Apple Street and Railway Parade remains closed. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
