A 32-year-old man was seriously injured after he allegedly crashed a stolen car into roadwork barriers in Onslow last night.

About 8pm, a Toyota tray back utility was stolen from a home in Cameron Avenue.

The vehicle was involved in a crash a short time later on Onslow Road, about 10km from town, after the driver failed to negotiate roadwork barriers and hit a concrete structure.

The crash caused significant damage to the car and the driver was taken to Onslow Hospital.

Police inquiries are continuing.
