About 5000 homes remain without power this morning after “unique” weather conditions caused faults in the Western Power network across Perth last night.
Homes in Eden Hill, Kewdale and Quinns Rocks are among the worst affect today following multiple faults overnight, including several pole-top fires.
At the peak of the blackout 20,000 households were without power.
Traffic lights were out at several intersections and powerlines were down in some suburbs for several hours, causing traffic delays.
A Western Power spokeswoman said the faults had been caused by a sudden drop in temperature and light rain after a long period of hot weather.
She said the worst affected areas were Hamilton Hill, where 1800 people lost power, Balcatta, Bassendean, Atwell, Coolbellup and Eden Hill.Additional Western Power crews were sent to respond the faults and help restore power.
