Staff reporter, The West Australian February 21, 2013, 3:17 pm

A teenage mother and her partner have been charged after a 19-month-old boy was found with fractures, bruising and severe weight loss while in their care.

Police allege the boy received fractures to his legs and arms, bruising to his body and lost about two thirds of his body weight during two months while in the care of the 18-year-old woman and 21-year-old man.

The mother, who was 17 during the time of the alleged offence, and her de facto partner have been charged with failing to protect a child from harm.

The boy has been taken into the care of the Department for Child Protection.

The woman has been scheduled to appear in Kalgoorlie Children's Court on March 5 and the man is scheduled to appear in the Kalgoorlie Magistrate's Court on March 4.
