Port spokeswoman Ainslie de Vos said the Princess Mary, a 100m tweendecker, lost power about 4.30am and “nudged into the North Mole.”
“It has now been put to anchor near the South Mole. It will be inspected by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority,” she said.
Water police said the ship had lost steerage and ran aground, but caused no damage to itself or the jetty.
It had since been towed out to safe anchorage about 1km off-shore.
The Princess Mary, a Westlink Shipping vessel, is equipped to carry containers, dangerous goods, heavy cargo, grain and timber.
The full-loaded ship was heading to Christmas Island.Sponsored links
