The parents of a German teenager who died after falling 13m from a cliff at Serpentine Falls at the weekend were on their way to Perth last night as visitors at the popular swimming spot claimed there was little authorities could do to stop people jumping from the treacherous rock ledge.
Ulrich Ditzel slipped and fell on Sunday as he tried to slide down a slippery rock to a narrow, 12m-high ledge where he planned to jump into the water.
The 19-year-old had been in Perth for about five months on a working holiday.People enjoying the swimming hole yesterday were aware of the teenager's death but opinions differed on the risks of jumping from the cliff edge. Georgia Peach, 21, had jumped from the ledge before but said she would not do it again. Yehser, 19, jumped from the ledge but said he had contemplated not doing it after reading of the tragedy.
