Police were last night investigating the cause of a suspicious fire that badly damaged a house in Perth's northern suburbs.

The blaze broke out at the property on Cheriton Drive in Carramar about 7.35pm and took three fire crews from Joondalup and Butler half an hour to bring under control.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said about $100,000 damage had been done to the front half of the house.

Fire crews also battled a fire that destroyed a two-storey home on Walbeck Road in Kalamunda.
