The original Mary Poppins is flying into town.

Julie Andrews, also famous for her role as Maria in The Sound of Music, will appear in Perth in May as part of her first visit to Australia.

In the show An Evening With Julie Andrews at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, the 77-year-old star will take audiences through her memories over a six-decade career, which began when she made her London stage debut at the age of 12.

Her capacity to sing, though, is restricted after a 1997 botched operation on her vocal chords.
