A 57-year-old man has been charged with fraud after he allegedly stole more than $435,000 from the WA Department of Training and Workforce Development.

Police allege the man, who now lives in Victoria, stole the money between April 2011 and March 2012 and while he was the manager of a registered training organisation.

He also allegedly submitted false reports to the department containing the names of students who never received training.

The man has been charged with 12 counts of fraud and is due to appear in Perth Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
