Update, 12.40pm: Police are investigating whether speed was a factor in a crash that claimed the lives of three men in Morley overnight.
The three men were the only occupants of a blue Holden Commodore that was travelling east on Morley Drive just before midnight when the 43-year-old driver lost control of the car.
The vehicle slammed into a tree on the middle of a median strip, causing debris to be flung up to 50m away. The driver, from Morley, a 31-year-old front passenger from Dianella and a 34-year-old rear passenger from Singleton were all killed in the crash.
Police believe the Commodore may have overtaken another vehicle just before the crash and are urging any witnesses to come forward.
Police today marked out skid marks on the road showing the car appeared to come over a hill and cross into the right lane before slamming sideways into the tree.
Police described the crash scene as horrific. Debris remains strewn on the median strip where the men died.
There were emotional and angry scenes from family and friends of the men who visited the site this morning. Friends consoled each other at the tree where the car crashed.
A 2km stretch of Morley Drive was closed to traffic today in both directions between Camboon Road and Emberson Road as Major Crash investigated. The road has since been reopened.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the car before the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
