Carles preference plea to Greens

Independent Fremantle MP Adele Carles has called on her old party, the Greens, to commit publicly to giving her preferences at the March election.

She said yesterday the issue of preferences would determine whether she ran again, not the messy legal fight between her and Treasurer Troy Buswell.

"I don't see how that's going to be negative for me," she said.

"I see that being negative for the Liberal Party because I am telling the truth. We've just seen another case where Lance Armstrong sued people for telling the truth."

Ms Carles conceded that without votes flowing from the Greens and the Liberals, she stood little or no chance of holding the seat she won from Labor at a 2009 by-election.

She parted company with the Greens over her affair with Mr Buswell. She is frustrated that the party has not reciprocated her commitment to give preferences to Greens candidate Andrew Sullivan if necessary. Greens leader Giz Watson and Mr Sullivan said it was unlikely the party would decide preferences until nominations for the seat closed on February 15.
