Police are investigating reports of a series of gunfire in a suburban South Perth street.

Detectives and forensic officers were today part of a large police presence in and around a house in Mill Point Rd, which backs on to Garden St.

Neighbours called police yesterday evening to report seeing a person being bashed at the house and hearing three gunshots and shouting.

Police attended about 10pm last night.

A police spokeswoman said police found a spent cartridge on the road verge area.

"No one has been reported injured (or) shot, and inquiries by police have not resulted in information that anyone being injured," the spokeswoman said.

"Police have been advised that a black hatchback vehicle and a white utility were seen in the vicinity at the time.

"Detectives are continuing their investigation into the matter."

One Hopetoun St resident, who asked not to be named, said he saw the drivers of two cars exchange goods in the street before driving to the back entrance of the Mill Point Road house about 10pm yesterday.

"There was a woman in the driveway who was shouting and waving. She was refusing them entry, telling them to go," he said.

The man said both cars then quickly drove away and he heard three shots fired over a 15-second period.

Another neighbour said she saw a man being bashed at the house and called police.

When police went to the house last night, it is believed they found no one there and they have not yet found a victim of gunshots.
