Boy critical after bike crash

Liam Croy, The West Australian January 15, 2013, 7:59 pm

A teenage boy is in a critical condition after colliding with a ute on his motorised bicycle in Mundaring.

Senior Constable Mark Cooper said the boy attempted a u-turn on Phillips Road, near Yacopetti Place, when he was struck by a Holden Rodeo coming around a blind corner.

The unconscious boy was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital by the RAC rescue helicopter, arriving just after 5pm.

The female driver of the Holden Rodeo was visibly upset at the scene.

Sen. Const. Cooper said the retrofitted motorised bicycle was overpowered and not road legal.

Speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
