Fire crews are battling an "out of control" blaze at a mining base near Newman.
The fire is burning on land being leased by mining giant BHP Billiton which is helping to monitor the blaze.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued an advice warning for those near the Great Northern Highway, 10km north of Newman.
DFES says there is no threat to lives or home but the fire is moving fast and is "out of control and unpredictable".
The fire is moving fast in a south-western direction towards Great Northern Highway. DFES says it could cross the highway this evening or overnight.
DFES says it was suspected lightning caused the fire which started at about 4.30pm.
There is a lot of smoke in the area and motorists are being encouraged to drive carefully.
