Perth beaches reopened after closures

Update, 2.40pm: Multiple Shark sightings closed several major Perth beaches and one popular South West swimming spot this morning.

Beaches from City Beach to Trigg Beach were closed this morning after five Tiger sharks were spotted by a helicopter patrolling the area and a broadcast news helicopter in the last hour.

A three-metre Tiger shark 500 metres off Floreat beach forced the closure of Floreat and City beaches at about 8.30am. It was last spotted swimming south.

A two to three metre Tiger shark was spotted 200m off Trigg this morning, resulting in closures to the beach as well as Scarborough and Brighton beaches.

City Beach was reopened at about 9.30am after a helicopter did not report any further sightings. All other Perth beaches were also reopened at about 11am.

Meanwhile the South West surf lifesaving rescue helicopter spotted a three-metre shark of unknown species just 50m off Meelup beach, near Dunsborough, forcing it to close this morning shortly before 9am.

A three to four metre shark was also sighted 50m off Injidup Point at 8am.

A helicopter patrol has also spotted a four-metre hammerhead shark 1km off Castle Road Road. The shark was last seen heading north-west.

Beachgoers are advised to avoid the water until lifeguards give the all clear.
