Fire has gutted an Ellenbrook home early this morning.

A 54-year-old occupant of the Beecroft Lane house had gone outside between 12.30am and 1.20am this morning and noticed smoke coming from the roof of the property.

He found furniture inside the house on fire and tried to extinguish the flames, but the house was engulfed by the blaze.

The man escaped with his dog.

The blaze caused up to $200,000 damage and police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
