Lightning closes Perth beaches

Lightning has forced the closure of beaches in Perth's northern suburbs this morning.

Lifeguards at Mullaloo and Quinns closed beachs just after 8am.

A storm front is crossing the coast north of Perth, bringing with it lightning and heavy rain.

The Weather Bureau has forecast a thunderstorm later this morning.

Showers and storms are forecast for much if the State today, clearing later today but returning tomorrow.

A strong wind warning has been issued for Perth local waters,. Bunbury Geographe Coast and the Leeuwin Coast.
