iPhone and camera net alleged burglar

Sam Tomlin, The West Australian December 6, 2012, 5:32 am

An iPhone and a speed camera played a key role in the apprehension of an alleged burglar yesterday.

Responding to a burglary in Mt Pleasant on Tuesday night, police were told the victim's stolen iPhone had a GPS tracking app installed.

Activating the device, officers traced the phone to a property in Orelia where no one was home.

According to police, as officers were doing a preliminary search a black Jeep pulled into the property but allegedly sped off when the officers approached it.

Police allege the speeding Jeep triggered a speed camera in Rockingham. The driver was apprehended by Peel Police.

The driver was returned to the house where officers allegedly found more than 350 items of stolen property.

He is being held on suspicion of six burglaries and two stealings.
