Three people, including the 82-year-old pilot, have escaped serious injury when a light plane crash landed in scrub at Jandakot airport this morning.

One of the three has been taken to hospital with possible back injuries.

Pictures of the scene show the plane extensively damaged.

Police said the single engine Piper Cherokee aircraft had just taken off when it experienced engine trouble and lost all power.

The pilot attempted to land the aircraft safely but it crash landed in a bush area within the Jandakot Airport boundaries.

The three people on board were the 82-year-old pilot and two men aged 70 and 68.

The 68-year-old was taken to hospital.

There was no fire after the crash but the plane has significant damage, police said.

Police and emergency services are at the scene.

Officers from the Police Air Wing spoke to the pilot.
