Social media lit up today with photos of confetti cannons exploding in the city, part of the City of Perth’s promotion of the upcoming Christmas festival.
Four cannons simultaneously shot great gouts of the colourful fragments into the air four times during the afternoon, coating the crowds in Murray Street.
“Perth CBD is strewn with confetti flowers. Cue a south-westerly and a sunset,” Twitter user Anna McGahan said.
“Confetti-splosion in the city,” Rashas Moustaches tweeted.
The explosions were staged as material for a new TV commercial for the city’s Christmas festival, which this year is themed “colourful Christmas”.
“It was great, people just spontaneously came into the area where the confetti was falling,” City of Perth spokeswoman Louise Scott said.
“People were trying to catch it on their iPhones and little kids were running around trying to catch it in their hands.”
The Christmas festival runs through December.
