New signs warn of beach dangers

Permanent signs warning of potential dangers – including sharks - are set to erected at some of Margaret River’s best known beaches.

New signs warn beachgoers of hazards including strong rips, big waves, sharks and slippery rocks.

Shire of Augusta-Margaret River acting infrastructure director David Nicholson said the signs would enhance risk mitigation and safety efforts at frequently visited beaches.

“These new signs inform beachgoers of potential risks and safety issues and include other relevant information relating to restrictions on dogs, fires and camping,” he said.

“They feature highly recognisable icons that assist in crossing language and literacy barriers so everyone can have a basic understanding about the environment they are entering.”

Seven signs will be erected on shire-managed foreshores in the coming weeks, with the first of the noticeboards already installed at the Rivermouth.

Mr Nicholson urged visitors to be aware of potential risks.
