Bottles thrown in rowdy car rally

Police were pelted with bottles as a car rally through the southern suburbs turned violent last night.

The event attracted more than 200 cars to the car park of the Fremantle Maritime Museum early last night, before the cars travelled in convoy to the Phoenix Park shopping centre on Rockingham road.

Police said the crowd had swelled to several hundred around 9.30pm, with attendees doing burn outs and harassing nearby shoppers.

More than 20 police cars were called to scene to break up the crowd, who responded by throwing bottles at the attending officers.

Police arrested three people and seized four cars under the state's anti-hoon legislation.

Six adults and two juveniles were summonsed and one juvenile was cautioned for charges including assaulting a public officer, committing an indecent act, disorderly conduct and criminal damage, police spokesman Gerry Cassidy said.
