Rotto swim entries hit record high

Phoebe Wearne, The West Australian Updated November 14, 2012, 9:39 am

The 2013 HBF Rottnest Channel Swim has attracted the highest number of registrations in the event's history, including a record 237 solo swimmers.

About 18 per cent of pairs and teams missed out on a start after they were unsuccessful in the random ballot drawn on Monday. The Rottnest Channel Swim Association has now filled positions in all three categories of the swim, to be held on February 23.

All solo swimmers were guaranteed a place.

Now in its 23rd year, the swim is so entrenched in Perth's culture that each year there are not enough competitor spots to cope with demand.

Those who missed out on a start are encouraged to attend as a spectator, volunteer, paddler or as part of a support crew.
