Police are searching for a person missing after a house fire in Geraldton that caused $1 million damage to a three-storey property.

A Fire and Emergency Services Authority spokesman said firefighters were called to the blaze about 10.30pm after a passer by noticed the fire.

He said the house was fully engulfed by the flames and collapsed in on itself.

Geraldton career and volunteer firefighters attended the blaze and were at the house until about 3am.

The cause of the blaze is unknown and will be investigated by a FESA fire investigation officer this morning.
