Firefighters critically injured in fire

Two female firefighters are being flown to Perth with severe burns after a fire at Two Peoples Bay near Albany this afternoon.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service is being sent to fly the women to Perth for treatment.

One woman is understood to have burns to 80 per cent of her body and the other woman has burns to 60 to 70 per cent of her body.

Both women are in a critical condition.

The RFDS plane is due to arrive at Two Peoples Bay shortly and is expected to land at Jandakot Airport at about 9.30pm.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority issued an advice warning for people on Two Peoples Bay Road near Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve, east of Albany this evening.

The fire started at 9.33am and is being fought by 22 firefighters.

FESA says the fire poses no threat to lives or homes but there could be smoke in the area. The fire is moving slowly in a north easterly direction and is described as "small controllable fire".

Two Peoples Bay Road has been closed.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
