Lake's move to Hawks good for Bulldogs: Darcy

Former Western Bulldogs favourite Luke Darcy says Brian Lake's defection to Hawthorn should be seen as a positive for the club.

Lake's decision to leave the Bulldogs for the beaten AFL grand finalists on Monday has brought an angry response from members.

But Darcy, a former All-Australian and Bulldogs best and fairest, says his former club will come out on top - in the long term.

"I think the Bulldogs have done a great deal. They need to build a premiership side, and Brian Lake's not in their next premiership side," Darcy told AFL.com.au.

"It's going to take some short-term pain. It's the right way to go about it, 100 per cent."
