All clear for Collie bush blaze

PHEOBE WEARNE, The West Australian September 18, 2012, 10:30 am

An all-clear has been issued for a suspicious fire burning near Collie.

The fire razed about 300ha of bushland, including parts of the Harris River State Forest.

The Department of Environment and Conservation issued the notice this morning because the fire, which was burning in forest areas east of Harris Dam between Caversham and Asquith roads, was contained and enough rain had fallen to prevent it from spreading.

Fire crews are inspecting containment lines along public roads and extinguishing any remnants of fire that could flare up in drier conditions.

Yesterday, DEC urged walkers on the Bubbulmun Track between Harris Dam and the Yourdamung campsite to listen for updates because the fire was within 3km of the track.

The area was blackened by another suspicious fire in March.
