Jockeys charged over Kalgoorlie pub fight

A high-profile Perth jockey has been charged over an alleged pub brawl in Kalgoorlie overnight.

A police spokewoman said a 30-year-old man was allegedly glassed over a game of pool against a group of jockeys at the Goldfields town's Exchange Hotel.

The alleged victim was at the pub with his girlfriend and another friend when he agreed to put a wager on the game.

An altercation broke out over the rules and the man was allegedly struck with a full glass of beer, which shattered on his head.

He was taken to hospital and received stitches to a 5cm lacerations.

A 29-year-old jockey was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and a 70-year-old man was charged with wounding.

The pair was granted bail and will appear in the Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The jockey was in Kalgoorlie for the city's popular race round.

The Boulder Cup race meeting was abandoned yesterday because a section of the track was waterlogged.

A track gallop tomorrow will determine the fate of races tomorrow.
