SW surfers 'chased to shore by shark'

Rebecca Trigger, The West Australian September 11, 2012, 1:42 pm

A popular Margaret River beach has been closed this afternoon after a shark reportedly chased surfers into the shore.

The shark was spotted about 12pm today, and the local shire has closed the beach.

The size and species of the shark is unknown.

A four to five metre shark was spotted in the area during the weekend, but it’s not known if this is the same animal, according to a department of fisheries spokesman.

Beaches usually remain closed for 24 hours after a shark sighting, he said.
