Hot water system blaze guts house

A fire started by a hot water system gutted a home in Kalamunda last night.

The fire, at a single-storey home on Boonooloo Road is believed to have started on the property's veranda but quickly spread to the roof space.

The occupant of the house suffered minor smoke inhalation but did not require hospital treatment.

Damage was estimated at $300,000.
