Child pornography crackdown

THE WEST AUSTRALIAN, The West Australian September 5, 2012, 7:48 am

Police are calling for the public to take action during National Child Protection Week and report online child pornography through a custom-built government website.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority is spearheading the campaign, aiming to educate the public and prevent child abuse and neglect.

The authority can target online child exploitation material hosted overseas as well as in Australia.

During last year's NCPW, the ACMA investigated 89 items containing about 1700 images of child abuse after tip-offs from the public and Australian law enforcement agencies.

Members of the public with information about online exploitation images can go to: http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_90103 to report the crime.
