Mark Stewart bombed out of his work's $250 AFL tipping contest this year but he made amends by finishing first out of 45,000 punters in WA's Richest Footy Tipping competition.
In his debut season in The West Australian's lucrative tipping competition, he collected a cool $50,000 for picking the winner in 160 of 198 regular season games.
He won by a solitary result, after a battle with a fellow tipper went down to the wire last weekend.
"It came down to Carlton and St Kilda and halfway through the last quarter I thought, 'Nah, Carlton have got it'," Mr Stewart said.
"I felt for the other bloke."
The 53-year-old from High Wycombe said the possibility of winning had not crossed his mind until the latter rounds.
A passionate Eagles and Swan Districts fan, he said he would wait until the weekend to celebrate with his wife and three children.
"I'll probably have a couple of beers and we might go for a trip down south," he said.
"The rest will go on the mortgage and some presents for the kids."WA's Richest Footy Tipping competition was presented by Player, Channel 7, 6PR and _The West Australian. _
