A Qantas spokeswoman confirmed there had been an engine control system fault but said the aircraft landed safely about 11.45pm.
“There was a PAN (possible assistance needed) declared by the pilot but no emergency landing,” she said.
QF583 from Sydney declared the fault on approach just after 11pm.
Radar tracking showed the A330’s missed approach and holding as crew prepared for the landing.
The Airbus landed safely an hour late. The spokeswoman said engineers were investigating the cause of the fault.
